Christian Vassie - Public speaker
Christian is in demand in the UK and around Europe as a public speaker on politics and energy. He has addressed audiences across the UK, and in many European countries, including: France, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Romania, the Netherlands. Whether speaking to housing associations, universities, local authorities, or at energy and sustainability conferences, Christian is always keen to show people what can be acheived. "The world is full of people who can tell you how the world is and why nothing can be changed," says Christian. "I see my job as one of inspiring people to see what can be done." "One of the biggest perks of the job lies in meeting so many people with their own stories and experiences. Many European countries are way ahead of the UK on tackling energy efficiency, carbon emissions, and climate change and I learn a great deal every time I go somewhere to speak. Being bilingual in French and English, Christian delivers speeches in both languages and has also facilitated conferences in French and in English. Christian has been actively involved in the work of Energie-Cites, the pan-European association of European local authorities promoting local sustainable energy policies and has been closely involved in the Imagine project that led to the creation of the Covenant of Mayors. The Covenant of Mayors, requires signatories to sign up to reducing CO2 emissions by 20% by 2020. Since its launch, at the start of 2009, the Covenant of Mayors has signed up nearly 2500 local authorities across the EU, representing over 150 million people, well over a quarter of the entire population of Europe. The initiative has been so successful that the Covenant of Mayors is working closely with the EU to develop sustainable energy policy and target funding for all 27 nation states.
