Christian's career in music started when he was snapped up by Chrysalis Music and spent a few years releasing records and playing gigs. Like many a musician, before and since, he learned how tough a career in the arts can be and was delighted when he obtained work as a composer for the contemporary dance company Union Dance, where he also worked as musical director on a European tour with the company and Benjamin Zephaniah, the dub poet. One of his compositions for Union Dance, Safety in Numbers, was chosen by Melvyn Bragg as dance piece of the year in his review of 1990.

From there a career in film & television music beckoned.
